Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is more than just sweating; it’s a chronic condition where the body’s cooling system goes into overdrive, often targeting the hands, feet, underarms, or face. Beyond the physical dampness, it frequently triggers social anxiety and professional hurdles, yet many suffer in silence for years before realizing medical help is an option.

Management is highly adaptable, ranging from clinical-grade antiperspirants and oral medications to iontophoresis, injectables, or surgery. The condition is categorized into two types: Primary, which typically surfaces around puberty without a clear medical cause, and Secondary, which is linked to an underlying health issue or medication side effect. [Consulting a healthcare professional is the first step to pinpointing the cause and finding a treatment plan that actually works.

Frequently Asked Questions

What body areas can be treated?

Sweat Clinics Australia most commonly treats underarms, hands, feet, face and scalp as well as other body areas after consultation with your doctor. Our doctors also assess and treat whole body sweating.

What is the treatment?

Our doctors will assess your excessive sweating and advise on the most appropriate treatment for you depending on the nature and location of your sweating and your individual medical history.

How often will I need treatments?

Most people will need treatments every 4 to 6 months (2 or 3 times per year).

Don't I need to sweat? Is stopping my sweating safe?

While sweating is an essential bodily function for temperature regulation, we only block a very small percentage of the body’s total sweat glands when we treat specific body areas for hyperhidrosis The armpits, for example, are home to less than 2% of the body’s sweat glands. Blocking the function of such a small proportion of sweat glands does not cause any issues.

What should I try before medical treatment for sweating?

The first treatment to try is a strong topical antiperspirant such as Stop Sweat Fix. Antiperspirants work by plugging the sweat glands to reduce the flow of perspiration.

Does medical treatment for excessive sweating work?

Yes. Medical treatments are highly effective for treating hyperhidrosis. Studies in axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) have shown a reduction in sweating of approximately 85%.

Is the treatment safe?

Treatments are only provided following a consultation with our expert specialist doctors to ensure they are appropriate for you. Your doctor will discuss any potential risks or side effects before proceeding. All treatments we offer are TGA approved for treating hyperhidrosis and are administered by our specialist doctors.

Can you become immune to repeated medical treatments?

No. Research has shown that repeated treatments consistently result in meaningful long lasting improvements in sweating, daily functioning and quality of life for hyperhidrosis sufferers.
